Life and Work Goals for 2017

This past year has been quite an incredible year. Our family moved last year the week before Christmas. It took weeks to get the house under control enough to be able to sit down and focus on writing – just in time to make the deadline for On The Ropes. I traveled and spoke and taught at a few dozen locations through the year, including going to Hawaii and then to Australia. In the midst of all that, I had some personal things that cropped up here and there and totally took all of the wind out of any sails I hoped to have in the writing department. I actually went weeks at a time without going into my office. I did manage to finish A Harmony for Steve, but those two books were the only things I managed to release in 2016, despite the production schedule I’d established a year before.

Now, I’m looking forward to next week when my kids are back in school. I have a brand new calendar with a brand new production schedule that goes through mid-2019. And, with that, I have come up with some new work goals:

  1. Write every work day for the full six hours of writing time allotted, whether something is trying to take the wind out of my sails or not.
  2. Publish at least one interview with a Christian author a week on my blog, with a special giveaway for my readers.
  3. Consistently write articles for Faithful, ACFW blog, and BookFun Magazine.

And, I also came up with some life goals:

  1. Exercise every day.
  2. Have a garden this year. I haven’t gardened in 3 years, and my soul misses it.
  3. Drink 100 oz of water a day.
  4. Take my kids to see no less than 4 stage productions in 2017.
  5. Send birthday cards to our family — something I always say I’ll do then somehow just never do.
  6. Give myself a little more grace than I usually give.

What kind of goals have you made this year?

Looking Back and Going Forward

fireworks-243641_640Happy New Year!

I have had an eventful and rather incredible 2014. I traveled so many places and met so many amazing readers and writers. I have developed friendships with people I never would have met otherwise, and found encouragement and inspiration everywhere I went.

One thing I discovered by traveling was that I seem to be unable to write in a hotel room. I thought I would be able to spend all that time away from my home, family, and responsibilities and just delve into writing projects. It turns out that wasn’t the case, and my writing goals got shifted every month.

Despite that, even with traveling two or three times a month, I released Iron Skillet Man, the Stark Truth About Pepper and Pots; A Carol for Kent, Book 3 in the Song of Suspense Series; and started the serialized story of Virtues and Valor by releasing Temperance’s Trial, Homeland’s Hope, Charity’s Code, and A Parcel for Prudence.

2014 books

In 2015, I have a lot more writing coming to me than traveling. I will be releasing the rest of the Virtues and Valor series starting with book 5, Grace’s Ground War, on January 19th, Mission of Mercy on February 17th, and the conclusion, Flight of Faith, on March 17th.

In 2015, I’ll also be publishing the 4th Song of Suspense book, A Harmony for Steve.

After Harmony releases, I’ll be working on another sibling trilogy similar in style and genre to The Jewel Series about triplet Russian brothers. I’m very excited about that trilogy and pray that it is as emotionally charged as the Jewels have proven to be.

I’ll be bringing you regular character interviews. If you have a favorite character, send me a question to ask them in their interview!

And, as always, I’ll have regular Christian author guests and fantastic giveaways.

Thank you for starting the year with me. I hope that you have a fabulous year ahead and look forward to sharing it with you!

Sum…Sum…Summertime

summerThis is going to be a crazy summer.

On top of the whole mothering three kids and being a wife thing I have going on, there’s a whole lot happening on the Hallee Bridgeman Author side of the world.

  • I have already attended Arizona Dreamin’ in Phoenix, Arizona, and the Southern Christian Writers Conference in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
  • I will be sitting on the panel for the Woodford County Library’s Inspirational Pens on Fire in Versailles, Kentucky.
  • I will be attending the Kentucky Christian Writers Conference in Elizabethtown, Kentucky
  • I will be attending the Romance Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada.
  • I will be attending the Romance Writers of America Convention in San Antonio, Texas

I will also be on “vacation” with my husband and sons in the Washington, D.C. area for about two weeks. I use vacation in quotation marks, because he’ll actually be on National Guard duty. The kids and I are just taking advantage of no school and going with him. We’re very excited about that, because we have family in that area of the country.

1600x2400_ac4kWith all of this travel, I also have the following work to complete:

  • Virtues and Valor Series.  I have 3 1/2 written. I need to have all 7 (or 8) written before I can begin publishing them. I can’t risk beginning this story and having to make changes in an earlier book due to a plot point in a later book. The first two books (Temperance’s Trial and Homeland’s Hope) are scheduled to publish on September 11th.
  • A Harmony for Steve: A Carol for Kent hasn’t even been out for a month yet, and already people are clamoring for book 4 in the Song of Suspense Series. It’s not written yet – in fact, the only thing for that book that’s written is the preview that went into A Carol for Kent. But I won’t let that stop me! That book will be scheduled for release as soon as we have an idea of when it will be finished.

Consequently, my social media is going to s l o w d o w  n. I have  no choice.

I do have six days home alone coming up. I’m going to see what I can do about finishing up the plot outlines of the Virtues and possibly writing the remaining 3 1/2 books in that series during those days.

How does your summer look?

Writing Goals

new year

Happy New Year! I’m writing this post with my phone. My kids were at my parents’ house for a couple of days, and Scott came down with Type A influenza.  So, I left home in a hurry to do the 5-hour-drive, and inadvertently left my computer at home. But, I can still do this blog post, clumsy as it may be! It has been an incredible year. I have been amazed and humbled by the way God is using me and developing my ministry.

Here are my writing goals for 2014:

virtues1. Publish the serialized Virtues and Valor novellas.  This will be one continuous story about a rescue mission of a female spy in World War II, with each book having a different character’s point of view. There will be 8 total stories, and the plot will not conclude until the final story.  I will publish one a month, or one every two weeks once I start.  I’m really looking forward to it.

2. Publish A Carol for Kent, book 3 in the Song of Suspense Series.

3.  Begin my Renkoff Brothers series, love stories involving triplet brothers of Russian immigrants. I LOVE the Renkoffs.

4. Bring back my Readers Write to Know author interviews on Wednesdays, and have a giveaway with each interview.

5. Launch Muse Mondays linky as a way to connect to other author blogs.

5. Attend the American Christian Fiction Writers Conference, the Romance Writers of America Conference, and the Romance Novel Writers Conference. I will also be at several other events including the Arizona Dreamin’ and RomCon.

6. Have some form of a speaking or book signing event at least once a month.

7. For Olivia Kimbrell Press, my husband, Gregg, and I hope to expand our ministry to include assisting other indie published Christian authors. More details will come about that as our ministry develops. We’ve joined the Christian Small Publishers Association as the first step.

I also developed goals at Hallee the Homemaker, including my cookbook goals.  You can find them at this blog post.

What are your goals for the coming year?

Hallee
