30 Days of Thankfulness Day 28

I often post a list of all the things for which I’m thankful on Thanksgiving. But, in an effort to get back into the habit of daily blogging, I’ve decided to do a post a day for the month of November.

28. Thanksgiving

rockwell-thanksgiving

I *LOVE* having a time of year where everyone focuses on the things for which they’re thankful. I love feasts and family and gathering and traditions. I love that until just the last couple of years, Thanksgiving was just Thanksgiving and nothing commercial or corporate. I love that there are people who seek out ways to serve today, at soup kitchens and missions around the country. I love that the roads were full of travelers yesterday heading to homes and families.

That said, I’m sad, as I type this, because when I got to my parents’ house last night and saw a commercial (which I never see at home, so I’ve been in ignorant bliss) that stores are opening at 5PM on Thanksgiving for Black Friday early birds. That sucks. And, I’m using this platform to exclaim how much that sucks.

But — aside from that, I think Thanksgiving is a beautiful time. I pray that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and in a moment of quiet prayer or meditation, give God thanks.

Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands!
Serve the Lord with gladness;
Come before His presence with singing.
Know that the Lord, He is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.
For the Lord is good;
His mercy is everlasting,
And His truth endures to all generations. ~Psalm 100

30 Days of Thankfulness Day 26

I often post a list of all the things for which I’m thankful on Thanksgiving. But, in an effort to get back into the habit of daily blogging, I’ve decided to do a post a day for the month of November.

26. My Readers

I get so much feedback from people who read my books. I get such incredible letters, reviews, and messages that there are days that I’m almost afraid to keep writing because I might not be able to maintain the same standard, and there are days when I want to just shut the door and write as fast as I can to give them some more.

Here are just a few examples of some of the letters I’ve received:

You are a FANTASTIC author!!!! The plots are great (and appeal to my romantic heart!), and I love the faith struggles in the books – very real life for Christians living in this fallen world. I would put you right up there with Terri Blackstock and Dee Henderson, my two suspense favorites!!! Please keep the books coming!!! Also posting on Facebook my new favorite author. 🙂

I picked up Topaz Heat and started reading it last night. Literally had to force myself to set it down and go to bed! Today I devoured it and will be writing a review for it a little later tonight. LOVED IT!

Hi Hallee! I recently purchased all three of your Jewel Trilogy books and I just had to write and tell you how much I LOVED them!!!! I couldn’t pick which one I loved best they were all so very good!!!! They were so good that I couldn’t put them down. I read them all in 5 days (work got in the way, LOL) – I read Emerald Fire in one day (I refused to put it down). They really touched my heart, too. Gave me some things to think about. Thank you for that. Many blessings to you and your family this holiday season!

I just finished reading the Jewel Series and I rate the series in the top five I have ever read. I enjoyed them so much. I hated for it to end. I really felt like I knew each character and I grew to love each of them. You are an amazing writer and I look forward to reading more from you.

I just wanted to take time to let you know how much I have enjoyed reading your books this weekend. As a Christian it can be hard to find good reads especially romance. You are truly gifted for this!! Keep writing books, I love them & thank God for a book that has sound doctrine & focuses on Christianity & not denominations. Just wanted to let you know that your books ministered to me. God’s blessing & favor be upon you, sister in Christ!!

I wish I had the words to express what feedback like this does for this writer’s soul. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading my books, telling your friends about them, and reaching out to me.

3 Days of Thankfulness Day 25

I often post a list of all the things for which I’m thankful on Thanksgiving. But, in an effort to get back into the habit of daily blogging, I’ve decided to do a post a day for the month of November.

25. Four Seasons

four seasons

When I was 13, we moved from Oregon to Eglin AFB, Florida. At 16, we moved to Ft. Benning, Georgia. I spent January through May in Ft. Drum, New York my 18th year, and moved to St. Augustine, Florida, when I was 19. I didn’t leave Florida until I was 35 years old.

I now live in Kentucky. Kentucky has the most picture-perfect four seasons for which you can hope. Leaves turn brilliant colors in autumn and fall from the trees as the weather cools and nights become crisp; winter snow and ice cover the landscape during the winter months and the temperatures are take-your-breath-away cold; daffodils and tulips break through the frozen ground, fruit trees bloom in a beautiful array, and days begin to warm in the spring; fireflies light up the evening skies, everything is green, fruit trees bring forth their abundance, and the days are oh-my-goodness-hot in the summer.

I LOVE having four seasons. Love it. I’m thankful to live in a state where they are so picturesque.

30 Days of Thankfulness Day 24

24. Persecution

biblecross

On the heels of Day 23 and of being thankful for blogging as Hallee the Homemaker for the last four years, doing so, living my life so openly before the world has made me a target. I deal with a string of emails, comments that never get published, Facebook or Twitter messages, and even blog posts that ridicule my ideas, tear down my faith, or outright insult and threaten me. Gregg, in his creation ministry, has especially been a target.

When you live your life in the open, as we do, you open the door for such things. It takes a straight spine, a tough skin, and the words of Christ to help get you through another day of opening emails sometimes.

“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” Matthew 5:11-12

It is part of a Christian walk. It is part of working a ministry, especially a ministry that welcomes and encourages feedback. I’m thankful that I have a ministry invites such insults and persecutions. As the pastor Alistair Begg once said, “If you aren’t being attacked [by Satan] then you’re not doing something right.” I’m also thankful for the encouraging words of Christ to support me through some of the more heinous attacks.

30 Days of Thankfuless Day 23

23. Hallee the Homemaker

HalleeButton5-bevhomemaking with hallee 150

I started this blog on a whim. I woke up one morning having no idea what a homemaking blog even was, and went to bed that night having written my first post. It has been an incredible 4-year journey. Through that blog I’ve learned, I’ve opened up, I’ve searched inside of myself, and I’ve made many friends. More so, I’ve grown closer daily to God by having a ministry so focused on Him that when I sit down at my computer, He is sitting right next to me.

Gregg and I have poured our hearts, souls, and finances into that ministry. We have never made a dime off of what we do there, and we never will. We work closely together and it’s helped us even grow closer together.

I am thankful to the direction of the Holy Spirit to start the blog. I’m thankful for the wherewithal to keep going with the blog. And, I’m thankful for the readers who come to this blog by the thousands a day. It’s a blessing to me in ways I can never express.
