  1. To me, most often, love is what you DO, not so much what you FEEL.

Hi Hallee! I love your explanation of what love is! When I think of love, I always think of God’s love for us. The Bible says, There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear . . ..” God’s love is the only perfect love. We can love others immensely, but our love is not perfect like our Father’s. When we are secure in His love, there is no fear. We trust Him in every aspect of our lives. I’ve heard it said that fear is the opposite of faith – you can’t have both. One cannot be, if the other is.
God’s love is perfect. His love never fails us (now I have a song stuck in my head), He in fact, loves us so much that Jesus died for us. He love completes us. Without Him, we have an empty space in our hearts. People spend their whole lives searching for Him and His love. If we don’t know and love Him, and have His love in our hearts, I don’t believe we can truly love others. Love starts with Him. He is love and He is the reason we love.
I’m sorry if this is confusing. I tried to make it make sense, but my thoughts were kind of tripping over and around each other. 🙂
    Blessings,
    Sarah

    1. It’s not confusing at all. I love this.

Hi Hallee – Beautiful blog post on what love is. To me, love is resting in the faith that I am loved regardless of how bad I might mess up. My husband loves me no matter what (almost). God loves me no matter what – period! I try to follow His example and love unconditionally but like all humans, I often fail. So grateful for His example and promise of unconditional love.

Hallee, you did a wonderful job on writing what love is, and that’s why you’re a writer and I’m not. You make your characters come to life in your books, that makes them memorable to me so when I’m finished with the book, I feel like your characters are my friends and that I will miss them, I know, crazy right?? I know I had already commented, but I wanted to write something more.

    1. Thank you so much. I get people who say that to me all the time. I had a friend who told me she thought about Tony and Robin and wondered how they’d been doing lately — then remembered they were fictional characters. LOL. I LOVE that I created such believable characters.

  2. I especially love the triangle example, because it really does take God to make a marriage work.

To me love is what is still there years after the “feelings” wear off. It is spending my life with my best friend. It’s all the good years and bad years – and growing together through it all.

  3. I like your explanation of what type of stories you write. It’s much harder to write faith-based fiction that some might think. You have to weave in those elements in either a subtle or overt way, but in both instances you have to do it in a way that digs deep into the soul of the reader to keep them reading with you. Thank you for what you you do! Thank you for your courage, your heart, and your faith to put out there what matters the most to you! 🙂 Thank you!!

Love is…what you so clearly illustrate in your books! And to me, love is a sincere and true desire to comfort, care for, please and make happy another and in doing so, do all those things for YOURSELF as an inevitable, circular and perpetual result!

    1 Corinthians 13:4-8

4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.

Love is always being secure in the knowledge that even though there will be disagreements, differences of opinion or arguments that you will still be loved. No matter what!!! Loved this blog and loved what the others have said as well.

Love is…faithful, enhancing another’s strengths, and seeing the other through “God’s eyes”. Love is keeping God in the center, putting the other before yourself, and being a true, loyal friend.

To me, love is a commitment that says ” I’ll be with you for better or worse, till death do us part.”

Love is not the fiery romance of first attraction, it is the day to day loving your partner more than yourself. Doing all in your power to please another to put their happiness before your own is the greatest show of love and fidelity. True love stands the test of time and lasts forever through good and bad, children falling astray, unemployment and disaster. Those who love lasts will be rewarded with an eternal love.

Love is doing things you would not usually do just to spend time with the person you love. For example my Hubby will watch girly moves with me just so we can spend some time relaxing after our daughter goes to bed. Never fear she is not left out of the fun we help her with home work and watch her shows before her bedtime.

  4. Hey great post. I think so many people would be happier if they could follow some of the guidelines you talked about here. God is all about love and a happy Marriage. I think love is finding your soul mate, the one you can keep by your side when things are good or not so good.

I’m so happy that I have a good Christian husband who is not perfect but he’s put up with me for many years so that says something good about him. 🙂

  6. What a fantastic post, Hallee! I’m so glad that God’s love is greater than anything we are capable of ourselves, because we needed a super-sized love to redeem us…
