It may seem odd to seek peace by moving to a war-torn African country, but for medical missionary Dr. Cynthia Myers, it provided a way to escape a shallow life of unearned wealth, a philandering fiancé, and a father now square in the public eye as vice president of the United States. At least here she knows her work and life have meaning. But all that is thrown into chaos when she fails to save the life of a local warlord's mortally wounded son.

As part of the Army Special Forces "A-Team" on a mission to capture and subdue the warlord, Captain Rick Norton is compelled to use deadly force to save Cynthia's life. Enraged at the violence she witnessed and riddled with guilt that men died because of her, Cynthia tries to hold on to her anger--but an unwanted attraction is taking hold.

With two members of his team badly injured and rebels in hot pursuit, Rick will have to draw upon all his strength and cunning to get her out alive . . . because he's beginning to think they just might overcome their differences and be able to make a life together.

Characters: Honor Bound followed Captain Rick Norton, a Green Beret, and Dr. Cynthia Myers, an obstetrician. Although both characters had their interesting moments and reactions, I had trouble connecting with them. Rick was a little too flawless, and Cynthia frustrated me with her pacifist beliefs. I was also disappointed that Cynthia was the only one who had to change in the end.

Language: Clean.

Moral/theme: This novel contained themes of sacrifice and courage. Both Rick and Cynthia were believers.

Plot: Suspense and high stakes filled the first half, and Rick and Cynthia's relationship developed more during the second half. Both parts kept my attention.

Romance: Clean. Just kissing.

Writing: Hallee Bridgeman's clear writing style worked great for this novel. Everything flowed well, and I could easily picture what was happening.

Overall: Honor Bound was an entertaining read that I'd recommend to those who enjoy Christian fiction, romantic suspense, and military stories.

Disclosure: I received this book free from Revell through Interviews & Reviews. The opinions I have expressed are my own, and I was not required to write a positive review. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

'There is evil in the world and sometimes what protects pacifists are soldiers willing to meet that violence with equal violence.'

Boy howdy, this was a good book! I was immersed completely on the first page. I'd never read a book by Hallee Bridgeman and I was just amazed at how good the writing was. The story line was great and the character development was very well done indeed. I'm always a bit skeptical when choosing a new author's book to read, but I was so not disappointed here.

This author's words grabbed me immediately and just refused to let me go. Her heart-stopping military suspense with a God-honoring spiritual thread was stunning. My family has a large military presence and I am a complete patriot, and this aspect of the book really was amazing. I'm always thankful for those brave men and women who put their all on the line for this great country we live in. It was unputdownable to this reader and I could not wait to get back to it after having to pause for life occasionally. I'm happy to see she has a back list and I can read more of her good work. Well done!

My thanks to Revell Publishing for a copy of this book via Net Galley and the Revell Reads program. The opinion here is my own.

Oh my goodness! This was a book that I could hardly set down! The author did an amazing job of tossing me immediately into the action and danger of the situation that Dr. Cynthia Myers found herself in. I was initially frustrated with her reaction to the deadly force that Captain Rick Norton and his team had to use to save her life and the lives of the people in the village. Yet, I quickly grew to like her as I saw how dedicated she was to saving the two injured soldiers on Rick’s team. She was a complicated character who wavered back and forth between wishing the world was a peaceful place and a growing understanding that Rick and his team provided much of that peace by being willing to do what they do. There were so many edge of my seat moments where only the amazing skills of the finely honed team made escape possible.

I also loved that the author included what life was like when the team and Dr. Myers returned to the United States. It was wonderful to see Cynthia and Rick’s connection grow as they worked together in the field, but also continue to strengthen while in more peaceful surroundings as they learned more about each other outside of life and death situations.

I think the author did an amazing job of making me feel like I was experiencing how this team functioned as they fulfilled their mission. She also helped me to feel the extraordinary highs and lows that both Cynthia and Rick were dealing with while adjusting back to being in a civilian setting. Their relationship and the potential roadblocks to them finding happiness together felt so real to me. I am really looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I also plan to go back and read the prequel novella to this series, as well as another novella that contains the relationship story to one of the other members of Rick’s team.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I have just one question.

WHERE'S THE BEEF?!

(If you didn't read that in an old lady voice, you obviously haven't been cultured.)

Honor Bound started out great. A little stilted for my personal taste, but it's military suspense, soooo of course I definitely went in planning to give this puppy the benefit of the doubt.

The first third or so of the book took place in an African jungle, and while I cannot abide humidity and mosquitos, the fact remains that I was transported there and could practically feel the sweat dripping off my forehead.

Unfortunately, that's pretty much all of the good I can think of to say. *grimaces* like I said, I went into this book with an open mind, excited to read military fiction, but the delivery was just...not there. What disappointed me the most, though, was that while the book is labeled as romantic suspense, it was definitely more like a military romance with a little suspense sprinkled in.

There was a lot of telling instead of showing - which I know is hard not to do, but it was throughout the whole book, unfortunately. Instead of seeing body language tell its own story, I was told the characters' feelings, which really pulled me from the story.

Aaand that gets me to the lovey-dovey part of the story. The novel is categorized as romantic suspense, so I knew going into it that I should expect just that - romantic suspense. The romance was about how I expected. The suspense, however, was...very disappointing. Even though there were suspenseful parts, it didn't have me on the edge of my seat. In fact, the only reason I got the book read within four days was the fact that I had the time and I was determined to get it read - not because it kept me hooked. After that first portion of the book, and then one sequence a couple of chapters later, the suspense was over and it was simply a romance.

It was your generic romance, with all of the she's-out-of-my-league and he-makes-me-feel-like-a-person drama, with of course the little twists and turns unique to the story. But there was something nagging at the back of my mind that I couldn't quite place...until I realized that this book could be about any character.

The characters themselves were...flat. I didn't feel particularly connected to any of them, and I couldn't especially relate to them.

Rick Norton could've been named Jim Kramer and it wouldn't have mattered, because the book wasn't character driven; it was plot driven. There were no character arcs, no growth, no overarching theme. The only conflict in the book was the fact that he's a Green Beret, and she's a pacifist. And that just felt like unnecessary baggage that drove me up a wall.

And for my final point, the message of the story.

There was none.

All the characters are Christians, and that bugged me. I know it can happen, but it just felt forced, like they're Christians so that the book can be labeled Christian fiction. The characters talked about God, but it was more like He was a vending machine, y'know? Instead of including Him in everything and following His lead, they prayed when they needed help, talked about His goodness when their life was good, and thanked Him when the decisions they made (because they wanted things and not because He told them to) worked out.

This really felt like a squeaky-clean book about Christians. Not a faith-based book about believers. So...two stars. *sigh* which is disappointing, because I was really looking forward to this one (and, I mean, that COVER *heart eyes*)

Doctor Cynthia Myers and Captain Rick Norton don't meet under norma circumstances. A warlord's army is coming to the African village she's serving in and he's tasked to get her out. The journey gets complicated as the team brings along their two wounded battling against limited resources and time. Over time Cynthia learns to trust his judgement and he grows to admire her resilience.

The fast, action packed first half of the book leads to the second half, just as suspenseful as both Rick and Cynthia unwind stateside. They each question whether their thready relationship can grow to something more amidst the challenges of their lives and the blunders they both make. Both come from a heritage of faith and seek to live it out in their lives, even as they reconcile the hurt of their circumstances with what they know is true.

I really enjoyed this novel, a first for me by this author, and look forward to the next ones! Highly recommend for Christian suspense lovers.

Okay, okay, I was going to lose it with this book... I liked it well enough in the beginning, I suppose. But!!! A pet peeve of mine?! Is when the heroine scoffs at the mindset of a military man and has a disdain for the very things that make him a good soldier, the fact that he would use a gun to protect the innocent. I highly dislike when a woman is so... Stupid, I suppose is a word to use when she thinks all military men are killers and bring violence. It's just sheesh stupidity to think that especially when faced with warlords and such overseas. So, yeah... I did not like the start of the book and that took a good bit off of the rating.

Updating on what I've already written... I did not finish. I can't I'm not sorry (sorry. ;)) and I do not understand the hype around this book.

I regret requesting to review the second one and I am not sure how my review of it is going but after about 25% of this book and my attention not staying on what I'm reading, content that is seriously annoying the heck out of me, and the just.... UGH, wrong mindset from the heroine, whose-name-i-don't-remember, I just couldn't do it, so I checked other reviews and none of them encouraged me personally to finish reading this one.

I honestly, and I am sorry here, don't understand how it was published from Revell with the slow pace, repetitive thoughts, and the lack of spark between the lead characters in what is supposed to be a romance, I also found the lack of faith and just prayers thrown with great whining to be quite enough that I wouldn't read Mrs. Bridgeman's books again if I didn't have the second book to review.

This was quite a disappointing read, sadly.

Dr.Cynthia Myers is working in a small African village when she first meets Cpt. Rick Norton. After two of his men are wounded, she is compelled to travel to civilization so that his men can get adequate care for their injuries.

Honor Bound starts out with a bang and for the first half it is non-stop action, but as Cynthia is forced home by her father due to circumstances, Rick’s deployment has come to an end. When they first meet, Cynthia isn’t crazy about Rick, and I think Rick doesn’t know what to make of Cynthia. She doesn’t like the usage of weapons and feels at odds with him. But slowly, this tenuous acquaintance morphs into a friendship, and from there they both want to explore what else they might be.

The development of their relationship was pitch-perfect - nothing is rushed. Even though we gain more knowledge through Cynthia’s POV, I felt that Rick’s character is easily seen as well. Nothing is pushed, and their faith is prominent throughout. It felt like I was right there, kind of like the Secret Service detail that follows Cynthia. The writing is crisp and clear. All of the characters are so well-drawn that you can see them - at least I could! Personally, I don’t like the word swoon-worthy(that’s just me), but Rick is in my opinion the definition of swoon-worthy. This doesn’t have to be read in order but I would really suggest you start with the first one. Definitely recommended! 4.5 stars.

There is nothing like living in the middle of a jungle in the middle of nowhere and then having to run for your life. Ok, most of us would not like to live like that, but for Captain Rick Norton, this was a routine day. Dr. Cynthia Myers may enjoy her career working as a doctor in said jungles, but I'm pretty sure she would prefer not to run anywhere.

Cynthia was having a crisis knowing who she was and where she should be in life. To try and resolve her ideas, she takes a job in the jungles of Africa, helping women give birth to healthy babies and maybe assisting with a few other minor health issues. She doesn't expect the local warlord's posse to roll into her village and expect her to save a dead man. Lucky for her, a special forces team was nearby tracking the warlord and his men, trying to end that regime. It was divine fate that they were there and could save her from these men. However, that wasn't necessarily a good thing because where there is one, there will be more. What follows is an action-pack escape out of the jungle to an embassy in the country over a span of about 24 hours. I was on the edge of my seat, wondering how they would make it out alive.

Obviously, they do make it out of the jungle and to the embassy, and much to Cynthia's surprise, her father, is there. Apparently, he is now the Vice President. I can't even imagine what it would be like to have a father that high up in politics and the danger that you could be in from those trying to harm him. Cynthia is a bit of a rebel and does not want to be drawn into that spotlight again after a disastrous event that led up to her departure to Africa. Sometimes, you just don't get a say in some events. The upside to her recent experience is that she is hyper-vigilant and notices things aren't right. Another intense situation unfolded, which left my heart racing for the second time in a short period.

Things calm down from here, but these intense situations have drawn Cynthia and Rick together, and sparks are flying between the two. But will it last? Cynthia is a pacifist and abhors guns. I can't blame her; I'm not wild about guns, either. But sometimes, they serve a purpose, and it is knowing when those situations arise and that sometimes there are no other options. Rick leads a special forces team, and it is who he is. Both believe in a higher being, but can they resolve their differences?

This book really got my heart pumping during the first half. Once things calmed down, I became invested in the budding relationship between Rick and Cynthia. I liked that they took it slow and didn't rush into anything. However, her pacifism gave her some unrealistic ideas, and trying to make Rick bend to her way of thinking was rather immature for someone in her early 30s. This dynamic helped keep the story interesting and created a new conflict that needed to be resolved.

There are many supporting characters from Rick's special forces team, and they add drama and humor to the story. I found myself intrigued by these men and was happy to see that at least two of them get their own story in this series. I can't wait to pick those up and see how things continue. I liked their dry wit during stressful times in the jungle, but deep down, they all had each other's back and were a family. They were going to do whatever it took to ensure that everyone left Africa alive and in one piece.

I enjoyed this book and give it 5 paws up and look forward to the next two in this series.

"You'd think I would have the freedom to go where I want to go in the world. "

"Ma'am, I don't kowtow. But I did raise my hand and swear an oath to protect and defend. Now that your cover is blown, so to speak, this is the protect part."

Well, when he put it that way, medical missionary Dr. Cynthia Myers knew that Army Ranger Captain Rick Norton had every intention of extracting her from the African village that had become more like home to her than her upscale Washington, D. C. lifestyle. Of course, a warlord's son had died in her arms, the Captain's team had two injured members who needed her attention, and it was only a matter of time before enemy soldiers descended upon the isolated village bent on death and destruction; especially now that they knew her father was the vice-president of the United States. Even so, what was it about Captain Norton that made her want to argue with the man all the time?

If Cynthia thought her curious relationship with the handsome soldier was complicated before they left a jungle war zone, it certainly didn't get any easier to navigate going forward. Fortunately, they shared a faith in God, but their perspectives on war and peace were fundamentally different. Or were their views simply two sides of the same coin? Love is a powerful emotion and this couple's story has strength popping off just about every page.

As if I didn't already have a high respect for the men and women of our military, this book not only elevated my admiration, but also sharpened my perspective about so many everyday challenges. The tactical elements were fascinating, the emotional elements had me holding my breath, and then there were the scenes that simply granted a smile . . . like "Rick, promise me something . . . Never admit to my father's event coordinator that we ate this (a chocolate tart with a cream and raspberry topping) directly out of the box while drinking hotel coffee out of paper cups".

Highly recommended for fans of romantic suspense with strong military elements!

Others highly recommended this book, but I was sitting on the fence—did I or did I not want to read it? Reason being, the military aspect is SO out of my comfort zone. However, the thoughts of a female missionary Dr. in an exotic setting finally won me over. Soon I was on a dangerous trek through the steamy African jungle—laden with mosquitoes, crocodiles, & hippopotami lurking underneath murky waters, cobras twisting around trees, and bullets flying everywhere!

The characters are not only courageous, but able to joke in the face of danger, cry when vulnerable, and humbly pray when there's seemingly no way out. Captain Rick Norton, leader of the Green Beret team is our handsome hero...it doesn't get much more heroic than that! He can handle dangerous rebels, but meets his match in the feisty Dr. Cynthia Myers, who prefers serving those in war-torn Africa to the cushy, superficial life of the daughter to the vice president.

Filled with exhilarating action, tender romance, and truly a book about modern day heroes and the sacrifices they make for our country every day—this is one novel I feel honored just to have read.

Honor Bound by Hallee Bridgeman is a military story set in Africa between a doctor and the military unit. Romantic suspense is still part suspense, so I need tons of moments of worrying and bullets flying. Being in Africa, I know the bad guys are awful people, and it will create a lot of tension. I wanted to see more action throughout the entire novel. There was some suspense in the first couple of chapters, then the main characters moved out from the “rescue” area since they are going to be invaded by the African military men. Then a good chunk of the story was just a play-by-play of how they moved to the UN and then left the country. Did not really capture my attention. As for the romance, I really did not see enough between the two characters to find their love believable. I was disappointed in the romance. Also, I had no empathy for the characters. They just seem to be pointless people moving through the story. Yes, the heroine was a wealthy person with a different goal in mind, but I still did not see how this would transform her into a better person. The writing is wonderful. Bridgeman does know how to tell a story, but I wanted more tension and a little more believable romance woven throughout the entire story.

This is my first book by Hallee Bridgeman and it surely will not be last. The author has an intense and incredible way of fusing military action and adrenaline with tender romance to create a fast-paced, cannot-put-down story. I have not read a romantic suspense before that front-loads the action at the beginning of the book and then moves on to character and romance development in the second half of the book, but it works really well for this particular book.

I loved Rick, the captain of the special op unit. He's a soldier, protector, and guardian through and through and his big heart and bigger loyalty to his team and Cynthia made him a fantastic hero. Cynthia was a bit harder to get to know but once she opened up to Rick, her tender, compassionate, but often stubborn, heart was easy to see and admire. Rick and Cynthia's unwavering faith, even in the midst of physical and emotional turmoil, was inspirational.

I can't wait to read the next books in the series to find out more about Bill and Ozzy, two of the team members who have prominent roles in this book. I received the book from the publisher via NetGalley and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed Honor Bound by Hallee Bridgeman, I cannot wait to pick up the next book in the series and see what happens.

In this first book we are following a woman who is a missionary doctor and a man who works for the green berets.

There was tons of action, sweet romance and the faith content was woven in seamlessly. I loved that our main characters trusted in the Lord to get them through the hard stuff. Even though there was some disagreement between our two love interests about their job choices. I love that they had family and friends to lean on throughout the story.

**trigger warnings:
There is mention of rape, but there is nothing discussed in detail.

The Publisher's Weekly review says, "The contrast Bridgeman sets up between the gun-toting Rick and the violence-averse Cynthia as they maneuver through a perilous landscape thoughtfully interrogates what it means to uphold a Christian commitment to nonviolence. This backs up exciting action with some nuanced ideas about fighting evil with pacifism."
First of all, the characters read like real people. You almost expect to be able to invite them over for coffee (or hamburgers). The characterization is vivid, and the dialogue is completely realistic as well as witty, heart-wrenching, or so romantic you can barely stand it. The two main characters act like real adults, respectfully debating their differences while carefully navigating their lives and different social standings.
The plot is constantly surprising. It was a refreshing departure from the cookie-cutter formula plot of "rising action-climax-resolution" of most thrillers so you actually can't predict what's going to happen next. The story is front loaded with edge of your seat action from the first page. Then, when you feel safe, Bridgeman throws you into yet another life and death race to save lives.
THEN unlike most books where the white hat shoots the black hat at high noon then rides off into the sunset with the girl, Bridgeman delves into the social, psychological, and spiritual consequences of living through that kind of violence. She takes everyone back to America and actually deals with the effects of living through experiences like that have on human hearts. All the while, the main characters navigate life choices, the class system, and search their souls for some way to get to their happily ever after in a way that kept me turning pages.
I read a negative review claiming the characters were flat and the story was plot driven. She could not be more wrong. I suspect this reviewer is a non-believer who set out to write a negative review simply because of the very realistic and uncompromising Christian faith arc. Personally, I felt like the story was richer and so much deeper because of the way they struggled with meaningful faith questions. What I really apprecaite is that the author was careful to represent both points of view on violence.
Also, it was such a relief to read a story that depicts essentially GOOD male characters who embrace their masculinity. These are men like my grandfather, my father, or my brothers. In our current society, men (particuarly as depicted in military tales) are so often either objectified as "beef cakes" or stereotyped with toxic masculinity to the point of becoming tropish rapey characatures. Honestly, I've never met a man like that in real life. Bridgeman draws a picture of men with believable motivations and inner conflicts who, while flawed as all people are, are still GOOD in their hearts and strive to do what's right.
Cynthia, to me, started as a bit of a trope but that was short-sighted on my part. As I read on, I came to realize that a woman raised with wealth and surrounded by DC politics for her entire life would certainly display some of her entitled attitudes. But her genuine and even sacrificial concern for nearly everyone in her circle got me. Also, her relationship with her father, cluttered by secret-service oversight, read as completely believable to me and was so not the predictable relationship I expected.
There is a prequel novella to this series, Love in any Language, which I also read but the story stands alone. I recommend reading the prequel just to learn Jorge and Emma's backstory and because I believe this book was a richer for it.
CONS: There is a lot of often surprising violence. The good guys don't always come through unscathed. There is a description of surgical procedures. There are conversations about the depredations the warlord performs on the populace of the fictional African nation.
PROS: These cons are offset by courage, heroism, honor, respect, grace, and mercy. There is kissing but no sexual immorality.
Post Scripts; There is no (illegal) drug use. However, one soldier is wounded and won't accept pain killers for a long time. It turns out he is a former addict. He finally has to take the opiates and you can tell that it crushes his spirit. There is no overt alcohol use but one can assume alcohol is present at the Katengala Presedential banquet.
Conclusion: I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone. I will probably read it again.

This is my first time reading Ms. Bridgeman, and I loved this book, so much. So so much. I don’t even know if I can write a proper review without just gushing about how much I loved this book!

Cynthia is a doctor, running a small medical practice and delivering babies in the middle of an African jungle. Rick, leader of an Army Special Forces team, has been trying to eradicate a warlord who terrorizes the villages, kidnapping the boys to raise into his army. Through chance and happenstance, Cynthia’s father has become the Vice President of the US, and the warlord has learned of her existence in his jungle. Now part of Rick’s mission is to retrieve Cynthia and get her out of there, regardless of whether or not she wants to leave.

Cynthia and Rick clash from the start, which is one of my catnips. I love a hero and heroine who are at odds with one another, who bicker and fight and drive each other crazy. They are both so well written. In the midst of all the danger and the adrenaline pounding non-stop action we get a wonderful character study, or rather two wonderful character studies as they get equal page time. Cynthia has been through the ringer thanks to an ex who was using her for political gain, and she’s found peace in the jungle, tending to the villagers’ minor medical needs and finding her own spiritual needs fulfilled. With her practice focused mostly on obstetrics, she’s a little out of her depth when two of Rick’s men are injured, but she rises to the challenge. She’s brave and resourceful. She abhors violence, which is where a lot of the conflict with Rick comes from. He gets her out of a sticky situation with the warlord’s army, but he kills to do so, and because of that she does not act very grateful!

Rick. Oh gosh, I adore him. He’s a leader, he’s a soldier, he doesn’t do what he does because he enjoys violence, he does it to protect and serve. He prays before a mission, and during a mission, and he only resorts to violence when it’s necessary. And of course saving Cynthia’s life was necessary!

I love the author’s writing, and she obviously did a lot of research. Her descriptions of the jungle and the villages are evocative. She employs a lot of military lingo (with a glossary of military terms and acronyms provided at the front of the book), which helped it feel like a realistic portrayal. As the characters trek through the jungle, evading the enemy and roadblocks, sometimes having to engage with the enemy, the pace was brisk and the action nonstop.

Until they are safe and sound and back in the U.S. From there the action slows considerably, as the characters assimilate back into their own lives, but I was still completely captivated, to the very last page. While Rick and Cynthia undeniably have feelings for each other, their lives are so different that there is still some conflict. I saw where one reviewer complained that Cynthia was the only one who had to change, but I didn’t feel that she changed so much as that she came to some realizations, about herself and about Rick.

I am continually impressed with Revell’s romantic suspense line, and this book is a great example of the quality of the authors whose work they are publishing. The second book in this series came up for request, and I just found out a couple of days ago that I’m getting a copy, and I am beyond excited for that book to land in my mailbox!

This is high-octane romantic suspense centered around an obstetrician, Dr. Cynthia Myers, and the head of a special forces team, Captain Rick Norton. Cynthia is in Africa doing medical missions when a warlord threatens her and the entire village where she is practicing. One of Captain Norton’s missions is to safeguard Cynthia, so he does, killing various enemies in the process. Cynthia, a pacifist by nature, is torn up by the violence and does not understand why Rick has to kill people as part of his job. The action in this book is absolutely non-stop. I was a little put off by the three or so pages of military jargon in a glossary at the beginning of the book, but I did find referring to those acronyms useful more than once. This is a dynamic and riveting page turner, with a fast pace that never let up. Rick is coming to grips with his career, his failure to safeguard all of his men, and his growing feelings for Cynthia while Cynthia is in denial about her feelings for Rick and determined to forge a future without him. The story of their romance is a roller coaster ride of emotions. There is a great deal of depth to the story as the two separately explore their feelings and their faith in God. The plot was well-crafted and multi-layered with insightful looks into the lives of those in the spotlight and the warriors tasked to protect them. The character studies are fascinating and cleverly written to move the story along. With a unique perspective of military life and sacrifice, this book was enjoyable entertainment and a delightful story at the same time. I sincerely look forward to the next book in this series by the author.

This story was a captivating, nail-biting, fast paced suspense! loved the team, their interactions, and their jokes.

We have briefly met the team in the Novella, Love in Any Language, so it was easier to follow them in book one. And even though we do not have all the history of the team, I could just feel the connection, love, and respect they have for each other and felt their fear that those injured will not make it out of the jungle.

The action scenes were executed well, taking you right there along with the characters and the deeper character development was strong.

I loved one scene where Cynthia spoke to her dad about her critical viewpoint wrt Rick’s job, and I just loved her dad’s advice! Go read it! But we all sometimes fall into the trap, wanting to change things we do not like, instead of accepting it as God’s plan.

I did not want to stop reading, because I wanted to see how everything unfolded.

Fans of Ronie Kendig’s military suspense would love this book.

I am so glad the next book releases in October, because I need to find out who Bill Sanders is!

Honor Bound was pretty good. I think this is the first book I've read about a medical missionary, and I liked the romance trope of enemies to friends.

Dr. Cynthia honestly seemed a bit spoiled at first, but her character developed better as the story went on.
You could tell she truly cared about her patients and loved doing a job that made a difference.

Rick was a nice character. Who wouldn't love a tough but kind soldier with a heart of gold? He was a good example of a servant leader.

His fellow soldiers were a hoot to read about, especially their team nicknames such as Sanders, Drumstick and Pot Pie. And Team Daddy was pretty snicker-worthy.

There is so much Army lingo though in the very beginning, and it made for a super slow start to the story.

Negative Elements-
A character later on in the book refers to Rick as sounding "very se*y".
So inappropriate. I'll fix this with a dab of white-out, and that'll take care of it as this was the only language issue.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this e-book. A positive review was not required of me, and the thoughts above are my own.

This is my first novel by Hallee Bridgeman and I can officially state that I plan to read more. The plot definitely captured my attention from the very beginning and the pace kept up so I was interested the whole way through. I was intrigued by the characters and the different dynamics presented. The romance thread was strong while also having a solid amount of suspense and action.
There was a lot of emphasis on prayer which was uplifting. I'll admit, I skimmed a few of the parts where it started to feel slightly preachy, but I was captivated enough by the characters and storyline it didn't turn me off in any way.
A solid Christian romantic suspense novel, I can't wait for the next book in the story.

She's a pacifist...he's a warrior...

I love a good adventure story in an exotic setting – and for a girl who has never stepped foot out of the continental US Africa is about as exotic as you can get. The dirtier and more dangerous the trek through the jungle the more I like it! Toss in some skilled Special Forces guys and you've got me hooked! Honor Bound ticked all of those categories – and a few more – so I pretty much didn't put it down after first picking it up.

It's been quite awhile since I last read anything by Hallee Bridgeman, I think it was the first half of her Jewel series, but I thought that her new Love And Honor series looked like a great way to dive back in. I was not mistaken...

From the jungles of Africa to Washington DC to the Creation Museum in Kentucky, Honor Bound was an exciting read from start to finish. It was a fascinating mix of gritty suspense for much of it then an almost sweet romance in the last bit. That almost stark contrast highlighted and enhanced both elements as Hallee Bridgeman skillfully brought out the best in them. The insight into the lives of military families was also particularly interesting and thoughtfully presented.

I'm going to be 100% honest, this book was one of those ultra rare occasions where I dislike the heroine quite strongly. Her attitudes rubbed me the wrong way at nearly every turn. The hero, however, was the epitome of that word and I liked him from the start. He's a man of faith called to be a man of action.

This first Love And Honor book was quite the story. I enjoyed reading it and I am planning on checking out the next book in the series for sure. I wouldn't be surprised if I don't stop with just the next one...

I really enjoyed this book. Seeing Rick 'Daddy' Norton as a main character (rather than a secondary one as in the introductory book of this series) really helped me understand not only who he was as a leader, but who he was as a person.
I confess that I didn't like Cynthia as much at first blush. She was in the jungle for a reason: to be a medical missionary to underserved communities in that part of Africa (side note that 'Katangela', though it does not seem to exist on Google Maps, is located in what is now the DRC), but it seemed like she was experiencing a bit of what has been termed 'white saviourism' (the idea that white people have the knowledge and skills to 'save' those in developing nations/communities. She accused Rick and his team of bringing violence to 'MY village', and it seemed like she had not consulted with the natives of the village to understand their views of the US Army's presence to combat domestic terrorism in their location.
However, as she and Rick got to know each other on a heart level, it seemed clear that Cynthia's viewpoint was starting to change . . . that she was starting to see the world from other angles beside her own.
The romance was sweet, though very much an 'unsure thing'. And the action/suspense was just right . . . both in pacing, and in intensity.

Honor Bound is a clean, suspenseful story packed with action from the first sentence. We have men of the green beret led by Cpt. Rick Norton. He is following orders to rescue the Vice President’s daughter, Dr. Cynthia Myers, from the jungles of Africa. The first problem we hit is that she is in grave danger. Enter Cpt Rick to the rescue. Second problem? She refuses to be rescued.

The two main characters are not impressed with one another. Cynthia despises war, weapons, and violence, and does not believe she is honor bound to obey her father. Cpt Rick on the other hand believes he is honor bound to obey the next in line to the presidency of the USA.

As the story develops we see a gradual shift in the relationship. However, the author keeps us guessing until almost the end of the book. Is there any way this relationship can work out?

This is the stuff that leads to sleepless nights! Well done Hallee Bridgeman! This is the first I have read of her books, but the first of three in a row. I loved the action.

Disclosure: I received a free copy with no expectation of a positive or negative review from the publisher. The opinions are my own.

Dr. Cynthia Myers wants to make a difference and she never knew that serving as a medical missionary could be so rewarding. She also never dreamed that it could be so dangerous and that she may need a Special Forces operation to save her life! Will Captain Rick Norton be able to protect her from African rebels?

Hallie Bridgeman is a 'new to me' author and I'm anxious to read more of her work! Her characters were engaging and well-developed, and the danger sometimes took my breath away. Cynthia and Rick appear as different as night and day, but they are both honorable people, and their attraction can't be denied. Honor Bound is filled with suspense and the author does a wonderful job of explaining some of the military tactics and maneuvers. It's realistic so there are disturbing topics of war, suffering, and death but there's also a strong message of faith woven into the engrossing plot. This is inspiring and exciting romantic suspense and I look forward to Word of Honor, the next book in Bridgeman's Love & Honor series.

I received a complimentary copy from Revell Reads but there was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

Set in a fictional country in Africa, Doctor Cynthia Myers, daughter of the Vice President of the United States, is working in a remote village giving medical care and specializing as an OB. At the same time, there is a civil war going on in the country led by mercenary, Chukuwereije, and his soldiers who are killing anyone who does not agree with them. The United States has sent in a team of Green Berets to take Chukuwereije out. When they encounter Doctor Cynthia Myers medical clinic when tracking down Chuckuwereije's son, sparks fly between Captain Rick Norton and the doctor. Will the team and Dr. Myers make it out of the country?

What an incredible suspense read. Bridgeman's research into the Green Berets and their workings as a team made this story come to life. The developing feelings between the Captain and the Doctor add a wonderful touch to a hard core group of men who were dedicated to their job. I loved the nicknames that each of the men had within their team as well as the close brother relationships between them all.

Definitely a great suspense release from Bridgeman. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Honor Bound by Hallee Bridgeman started as a romantic suspense before transitioning to more of a women’s fiction novel with a slow-burn romance. The action and danger at the beginning of the story caught my attention and had me turning pages. However, after a certain event, the suspense died out and the story felt slow, a stark contrast to the strong, intense start. I also had trouble connecting to Cynthia as some of her actions and responses seemed to not make sense considering the rest of her character. I appreciated Cynthia’s character development as she searched for God’s will and learned to accept Rick for who he was.

While I wouldn’t reread Honor Bound by Hallee Bridgeman, I would consider subsequent books in her Love & Honor series. Three stars.

This was my first book by Hallee Bridgeman and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Honor Bound tells the story of Army Special Forces "A-Team" leader Captain Rick Norton as he fights a warlord in Africa. As his team is fighting, one of the members is injured badly enough that a doctor's touch is needed. Thankfully, Dr. Cynthia Myers, OBGYN is working on a missionary team providing medical care for pregnant women, and the special forces team is close to her clinic. Rick must fight to get his team out of the jungle safely.

The story of Cynthia and Rick is one that I felt truly represented a true life relationship. The push and pull of trusting and questioning what their true feelings for one another were felt completely natural within the story.

I'm looking forward to the next book in this series!

This is my first novel by this author and it will certainly not be my last! Action, suspense, and romance are all packed tightly into this exciting novel. I had a hard time putting it down due to wanting to find out more about the twists and turns that the novel frequently takes from beginning to end. I was also impressed that there was such deep character development even with all the action in the novel. The romance grows realistically, which I liked as well. The writing is very well done and I found it easy to read this novel quickly. I cannot wait for the second book! Recommended to those who enjoy romantic suspense.

Honor Bound is an action filled romantic military suspense! It grabbed me from the first page and I devoured it in two days. The story takes us from Africa to Kentucky to North Carolina and some stops in between. I fell in love with each character. I especially loved the hero, Rick. He was tough, intelligent and so caringly tender. The heroine, Cynthia was a fearless doctor willing to do what it took to help her patients.
With a nail biting storyline I finished the book with a satisfied sigh. I am eagerly waiting for the next two books in the series.

Got this book for Christmas and read it in one day!! Definitely different than any of the other romantic suspense, but in a good way! The characters are so relatable and the details are insane! You actually feel like you've been there after you finish.
