Interview with Jodie Wolfe and a Giveaway!

Welcome to Readers Write to Know! I asked you, my readers, what questions they would ask their favorite authors if given the chance, and the authors visiting my blog answered them! This week, I’m so pleased to have Jodie Wolfe as my guest! It looks like we had the same bookshelf as children. And, I love the way her husband will help her with plot points and her character’s situations! I hope you enjoy this interview as much as I did. Read on to see how you can enter to win a paperback of her latest release!

Tell us a little bit about yourself: I live in PA and enjoy walking, reading, knitting, and spending time with my husband. This December we’ll be celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary. We have two grown sons and six grandchildren. I homeschooled the boys all the way through high school graduation. After they left the nest, I threw myself into writing full time. There’s been many ups and downs, but through it all God is always faithful.

Tell us about your current release: Here’s the back cover blurb of Protecting Annie:

After twenty years of living along the trail as a deputy U.S. Marshal, Joshua Walker takes a job as sheriff in Burrton Springs, Kansas so he can be closer to his sister. Only problem, she no longer requires his protecting so he’s unsure of his next step.

Annie McPherson needs a change after the death of her father. She accepts a position as schoolmarm, hoping her past won’t catch up with her. Life is good, except for the pesky sheriff who continues to question her ability to adjust to life in the west and creates confrontations at every turn.

When the irritating schoolteacher’s past and present collide, dragging him into the turmoil, Josh has to decide who he’s willing to defend.

Who was your first Screen/Musical Crush?: Parker Stevenson in the Hardy Boy TV shows. I had a poster of him on my wall.

Who were some of your favorite authors as a child? (Book series, maybe?): There are so many – Amelia Bedelia, Encyclopedia Brown series, Little House on the Prairie series, The Bobbsey Twins series, The Happy Hollisters series, Nancy Drew series, and Trixie Beldon series.

Do you talk out plot lines with others, and if so, who? I do have a writing prayer partner that I sometimes talk plot with but most times I run things by my husband. I just finished writing book three in my current series. I was close to the end and was at the culmination of learning who the bad guy was. I was stuck on how to get my hero out of the situation. My husband helped me come up with the answer.

At what age did you know you wanted to write? I’ve heard stories of people who were writing stories in childhood (which is what I’d expect). But I’ve heard of others who randomly started much later in life, and that is so interesting to me! I was in second grade when I had to write a poem as a school assignment. I wrote about something I loved at the time – Snoopy. 🙂 Soon after I was writing little stories and illustrating them. I was hooked and knew I wanted to be a writer when I grew up.

What is the farthest location you traveled to in order to research a book? I guess it would have to be Texas. Fortunately, my husband has family who live in the area I was writing about which made it great for doing research.

How hard is it to come up with names for your characters? What are some of the sources you use? This is something I struggle with. Since I write historical romances, I will often look up names on: https://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/decades/names1880s.html and insert the year I’m writing about or the year my character was born. I’ll soon be writing a series set in the town where I went to college. I’ve collected newspaper articles with both first and last names of people in that town, so I’ll be checking those out when I start developing my characters. Sometimes when I’m stumped, I look at books on my desk to come up with a last name. 🙂

How old were you when you wrote your first book? I was thirteen years old at the time. It took me a couple years to write it, but I eventually finished Laura MacKenzie and the Mysterious Kidnapping. Can you tell I read a lot of mysteries at that age? 🙂
