Interview with Ginger Solomon and a Giveaway!!

Welcome to Readers Write to Know! I asked you, my readers, what questions they would ask their favorite authors if given the chance. This week, I’m so thrilled to introduce to you fellow InspyRomance contributor, Ginger Solomon.  Ginger is the homeschooling mother of seven (I know! I *love* that!) who is also writes for three blogs and is president of her writers group. She is truly a Proverbs 31 woman who writes with God in her mind and heart. I hope you enjoy this interview. AND – Ginger is giving away an ebook of her release, One Choice! Wait until you read about this book — you’ll definitely want to enter to win it! So, check out the Rafflecopter below with the entry instructions.

Thank you for joining me today, Ginger!

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I’m a mom to seven wonderful children (yep, they’re all mine). I’ve homeschooled them from the beginning and have two that have graduated and moved on to college. In addition to writing, I enjoy reading, crocheting, and playing video games with my children. We live on a 7-acre mini farm where we have a large garden, many different kinds of trees and berries, and free-range chickens.

OneChoice 453x680Tell us about your current release.

My debut novel is titled One Choice. Here’s the blurb:

Cahri Michaels is American by birth, but Belikarian by choice. Being selected to participate in the Bridal March forces her to give up the independent life she’s created for herself. She’s not ready to be anyone’s wife, much less to a man she doesn’t know.

Prince Josiah Vallis despises the centuries old tradition—the Bridal March—that is forcing him to choose a wife from fifty women. Why does it matter that he’s twenty-five and still single?

When Cahri and Josiah meet, sparks fly. Will it ignite a godly love that can see them through or will they be burned, never to be the same?

If you knew ahead of time your book would benefit only one person on their spiritual journey, would you still write it?

Absolutely. If I can touch only one, I would still want to touch the one. There’s an old song we sang in youth when I was in high school called “It Only Takes a Spark.” If I’m able to be that spark in someone’s life, or even if I’m only planting a seed that is watered and brought to maturity by someone else, I am willing. My goal in my writing, and everything I do – though I’m far from perfect at it – is to bring glory to God.

Do you feel pressured to compromise your standards in order to reach a larger audience or be more successful?

No. Success is relative. This leads back to the previous question. If I reach the one person that God wants my story to reach, whether published or not, then I am a success. I really try to write for an audience of One, and if He chooses to send my story out, it will reach who it needs to reach, when he/she needs to receive it. It’s not about me. And while this sounds really holy, it’s what’s in my heart. Do I want to reach a larger audience, or be more successful? Sure, who doesn’t? But I keep reminding myself over and over, and over and over that it’s not about me.

Have you always wanted to write a book?

No. I’ve only been writing for a few years. I’ve journaled for a long time and then it came to the point where the desire to write was so strong, but as I stared at my blank journal page, I didn’t know what to say. One night I had a dream and it stayed with me for days, so I started writing. That became my first book (which will never be published). To this date, all of my book ideas have started with a single scene coming to me in a dream. I write it down, put it aside and let it simmer, if you will, until I have a general idea of where I want the story to go. Only then do I sit down to write without plotting. I get to “read” the story as I write it. And sometimes my characters throw me a doozy of a plot twist. *smile*

Ginger picDo you have your plotline and character development already laid out before you begin writing a book, or do they develop as you write?

Ah, oops. I basically answered that question above. I learn about my characters first. I search the internet for their faces, give them personalities based on the Jung theory, and decide their backstory. I create a calendar to keep my timeline straight. I also research or imagine the setting in great detail – going as far as using a computer program to design the house and the layout of the furniture. After that, I write and let the story lead me as it will.

What is one thing that you “never saw yourself doing” and either do it now or have done?

I never, ever saw myself having and homeschooling seven children. Due to some things in my past, I got married thinking that I couldn’t have children, which was okay with me. I don’t really like kids much. There was also no such thing as homeschooling. After my first child was born (11 months after our wedding), God moved us to an area with large families who homeschooled. I learned A LOT during that time, and while I hated the area, I am so glad God took us there.

Today’s Word of Promise

matthewEveryday, I do a 4-mile aerobic walk. It takes me one hour. I listen to my Word of Promise Bible while I walk.

Today, I listened to Matthew 9 through Matthew 1.

Like the beginning of Matthew, this section is so full of Christ and so many profound words. But, one part did stand out to me:

Now when His disciples had come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread. Then Jesus said to them, “Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.”

And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “It is because we have taken no bread.”

But Jesus, being aware of it, said to them, “O you of little faith, why do you reason among yourselves because you have brought no bread? Do you not yet understand, or remember the five loaves of the five thousand and how many baskets you took up? Nor the seven loaves of the four thousand and how many large baskets you took up? How is it you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread?—but to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees. Matthew 16:1-17

Once you mix leaven (like yeast) into dough, over time it works the dough, growing it, adding gas bubbles to it, fluffing it up. Jesus was warning his disciples about the false doctrine of the Pharisees and the Sadducees and how it can infiltrate even the purest faith and fill it up with air and gas.

The Bible often uses unleavened bread- that is a bread without any leavening – as a symbol of purity.

So, guard yourself against false teachings and false doctrines. Examine your faith and make sure you’re not adding leaven to something that should be pure.

May God bless you and bless your day. Find a word of God speak to you today.

Interview with Christina Rich and a Giveaway!

Welcome to Readers Write to Know! I asked you, my readers, what questions they would ask their favorite authors if given the chance. This week, I am so pleased to introduced to you fellow member of the American Christian Fiction Writers, Christina Rich.  I love anyone whose advice for aspiring authors is, “Delight yourself in the Lord.” Christina just launched her Love Inspired Historical, The Guardian’s Promise, and she’s giving away a copy of it to one of you! So, check out the Rafflecopter below!

Welcome, Christina! Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Well, I was born and raised in Kansas. I’m a wife to a wonderful husband, and a mother of four children. I love to read, fish, research my ancestry and write.

Tell us about your current release.

guardians promiseThe Guardian’s Promise is about a former temple guard posing as a bond servant in order to protect his young king. He ends up falling in love with his master’s daughter when he witnesses her fierce protection of the young child.

With all those characters in your head screaming to get out how do you write fast enough to get it all down?

🙂 I often write synopses and first chapters and then file them away for later.

How do you push past the fear of your writing being average and be bold enough to sell it to a publisher(or agent or audience if you self publish)?

I spend a lot of time praying for guidance. I also recognize that my stories won’t reach and touch everyone, but if there is one, just one person who gains something from the words written… well, that keeps me going.

Who was your first Screen/Musical Crush?

The Fonz!

Do you have your plotline and character development already laid out before you begin writing a book, or do they develop as you write?

Not usually. Most of the time I see an image of a character or hear a snippet of conversation in my head, which begins the story. The Guardian’s Promise began with a simple question, what if a bond servant fell in love with his master’s daughter, what if he wasn’t really a bond servant but the former commander of the temple guard?

christina richDo you have pre-determined length in mind when you first begin a book?

Yes. Even though I really dislike numbers, when it comes to writing I’m a numbers gal. I decide on the length and then break it up into section so I can figure out where major plot points should occur.

What advice do you have for aspiring writers?

Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. Of course, you may find that as you do, the desires of your heart will be the Lord. 🙂 Seriously though, this writing gig is difficult and at times, disappointing, but I’ve found that trusting God’s timing is vital for sanity. I’ve also found that praising Him, even in the midst of disappointment, is just as important.

Christmas Diamond on Kindle

ChristmasDiamond427x640
Christmas Diamond, a Novella

A friend of mine downloaded Christmas Diamond from Amazon onto her Kindle, and it only contained 2 chapters. This was recently, and since thousands of people have downloaded that book since its release in late November, I thought the glitch must have been on her end.  However, in a review, someone said their Kindle copy stopped about halfway through the story.

I have no idea why, what, or how that happened. However, I went ahead and uploaded a brand new version, just in case something inside of Amazon’s system corrupted my file.

So, it’s there, it’s complete, and if you had issues you should be able to get a new copy — it’s still free and always will be.

Today’s Word of Promise

matthewEveryday, I do a 4-mile aerobic walk. It takes me one hour. I listen to my Word of Promise Bible while I walk.

Today, I listened to Malachi 2 through Matthew 9.

It would be nearly impossible to remark on any one specific thing that stands out to me when I listened to the end of the “Old Testament” with God’s own words and then the beginning of the Gospel According to Matthew, which contains everything from the Sermon on the Mount through the Lord’s Prayer and into Christ’s ministries on earth.

But while I was listening, I was reminded of the testimony of a Jewish man who had come to know Christ. He was given a Bible in college, and had a friend who evangelized to him. One night, he picked up the Bible and turned to the first page of the New Testament – which lists the genealogy of Christ through Joseph. And, that genealogy spoke to him more than any other words in that Bible. Because, as he read through the names, he recognized them and thought, “These are my people. This is the story of my history.

The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham:

Abraham begot Isaac, Isaac begot Jacob, and Jacob begot Judah and his brothers. Judah begot Perez and Zerah by Tamar, Perez begot Hezron, and Hezron begot Ram. Ram begot Amminadab, Amminadab begot Nahshon, and Nahshon begot Salmon. Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab, Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, Obed begot Jesse, and Jesse begot David the king.

David the king begot Solomon by her who had been the wife of Uriah. Solomon begot Rehoboam, Rehoboam begot Abijah, and Abijah begot Asa. Asa begot Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat begot Joram, and Joram begot Uzziah. Uzziah begot Jotham, Jotham begot Ahaz, and Ahaz begot Hezekiah. Hezekiah begot Manasseh, Manasseh begot Amon, and Amon begot Josiah. Josiah begot Jeconiah and his brothers about the time they were carried away to Babylon.

And after they were brought to Babylon, Jeconiah begot Shealtiel, and Shealtiel begot Zerubbabel. Zerubbabel begot Abiud, Abiud begot Eliakim, and Eliakim begot Azor. Azor begot Zadok, Zadok begot Achim, and Achim begot Eliud. Eliud begot Eleazar, Eleazar begot Matthan, and Matthan begot Jacob. And Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus who is called Christ.

So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, from David until the captivity in Babylon are fourteen generations, and from the captivity in Babylon until the Christ are fourteen generations. Matthew 1:1-17

That opened the door of his heart. As he read on, he read Matthew quoting specific prophecies that were coming true with Jesus’ birth, and he thought, “This is my prophet.”

He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior that very night in his dorm room, and began an evangelistic journey that has so far allowed him to witness to thousands upon thousands of people.

As I ponder that, it occurs to me that God has a plan for every single word written in His word. Even those long and seemingly unnecessary genealogies. So, read the names, ponder the real people listed there, and consider the impact they’ve had on the generations of man.

May God bless you and bless your day. Find a word of God speak to you today.
